1Password Accounts

Since security is a top priority, CTA is proud to provide each of our partners with access to 1Password, a leading password/credential manager, through their PAD account!

What is 1Password?

1Password is a password storage and sharing platform. We chose to use 1Password for Community Tech Alliance’s staff and partners because security experts widely trust it, it has a familiar interface for many users, and it offers first-class developer productivity tools and integrations.

When and why should I use 1Password?

CTA asks our partners to use 1Password to securely manage and share any sync credentials or data analytics-related secrets. It may sound obvious but we strongly believe no one should be sharing sensitive information over Slack or email!

How do I access 1Password?

Alongside your CTA Onboarding email containing your PAD account information, you will also receive an email from 1Password prompting you to activate your account. This email includes your username and a link to your secret key. When you log in for the first time you will be prompted to create a strong ‘master password’. It should be longer than 16 characters, unique and memorable. We recommend using a passphrase.

Once activated you will always be able to access 1Password in your browser by going to https://communitytechalliance.1password.com. You can also use the Chrome extension or the 1Password app (available on your computer, tablet, or phone). As a bonus: When you sign up for your CTA-provided 1Password account, you will also receive a Family account for personal use! CTA will not have access to data in any personal accounts and the account will be free as long as you have an active PAD account. If you leave your organization, or your organization stops working with CTA, you will be prompted to add a payment method to keep your family account active.
