When you connect to Looker Studio for the first time, you may need to Authorize access to BigQuery. To do so:
- Click here to go into Looker Studio. You should see something like this:
- Click “Create” and Select “Report.”
- Now you should see the following screen, “Add data to your report.” Select “BigQuery” and then click “Authorize”
NOTE: If you connect to Looker Studio through the BigQuery UI, by clicking "Explore Data with Looker Studio’" you will not need to go through these steps because Google will do the authorization for you. However, if you try to visualize data sourced from a Google Sheet, you will get an error:
BigQuery error: Access Denied: BigQuery BigQuery: Permission denied while getting Drive credentials.
This means you need to Authorize Looker Studio access to your Google Drive. To do so, follow the same steps as above but select the Google Sheets connector rather than the BigQuery one. Once you’ve authorized access, there’s no need to actually connect any data. You can return to your original dashboard and refresh the data. Access should be resolved!
